Students of the Faculty of Social Sciences Mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Messages of Awareness and Solidarity
Students of the Faculty of Social Sciences, in cooperation with the Student Parliament, organized an awareness-raising event as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, under the theme “Raising Awareness About an Issue That Must Not Be Silenced - Talking About Health, Building Hope.” The event aimed to raise awareness about breast cancer, highlight the importance of regular screenings and early detection, and promote solidarity, support, and social responsibility.
As part of the event, the Chairperson of the Governing Council, Ms. Majlinda Haxhikadrija, emphasized the importance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and its role in raising public awareness about women's health. Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Associate Professor Dr. Ferdi Kamberi, highlighted that Breast Cancer Awareness Month is not only a time to raise awareness about breast cancer, but also a call for solidarity, support, and social responsibility. The President of the Student Parliament, Elda Gacaferri, thanked the students for organizing the event and encouraged them to continue developing similar initiatives in service of the community.
The keynote address was delivered by Valbona Kastrati, Director of the NGO “Ia Vlen të Jetosh” (“It Is Worth Living”), who spoke about the importance of awareness, information, and continuous care for women's health. A professional healthcare contribution was also provided by BSc. MA Mirlinda Llapi from the Skivjan Main Family Medicine Centre (AMF), who delivered a presentation on “Breast Cancer Prevention,” highlighting the importance of information, healthcare, and regular screenings.
One of the most meaningful moments of the event was the heartfelt gesture of student Rrona Rudi, who donated her hair to the NGO “Ia Vlen të Jetosh (It Is Worth Living)”.
This act of solidarity conveyed a powerful message of empathy, support, and care for women facing health challenges, demonstrating how even a sincere gesture can inspire hope and make a meaningful difference in someone's life. The event was moderated by student Altrina Halilaj and attended by students of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
The event concluded with the symbolic initiative “The Box That Must Not Remain Empty,” through which participants had the opportunity to write messages in response to the question: “What would you say to a woman who is postponing her breast screening?” These messages conveyed words of encouragement and support, along with a call for continued attention to women's health.
